Our partners from the Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials, Luigi Ambrosio and Maria Grazia Raucci, discussed the benefits and potential of our project at the 2024 World Biomaterials Congress, one of the most significant gatherings in the field of biomaterials.
Highlights from the congress
During this renowned event—which attracted over 4,000 participants, 200 symposia, and over 100 industry exhibitions — Luigi Ambrosio, the project coordinator, presented his work on “3D-Printed Bone Tissue-Engineered Scaffolds Using Bioactive Methacrylated Gellan Gum”. He explained, “the possibility of designing biomaterials, like the bio hydrogels being developed in BIOACTION, with different functions to control tissue regeneration.”
Maria Grazia Raucci chaired a session on “Advanced Biomaterials with Sensing Properties to Overcome the 21st Century Health Challenges.” She emphasised “the importance of developing new biomaterials to overcome bacterial resistance, a crucial part of the BIOACTION project.”
Discussions and potential collaborations
Luigi and Maria Grazia discussed the project’s benefits and the EIC Pathfinder work programme with other attendees. “These interactions underscore the significant potential for interdisciplinary collaboration to propel the BIOACTION project forward”, Luigi added.
Recognition and future impact
Attending this renowned congress helped spread the word about the BIOACTION project and connected our team with leading experts. We also congratulate Luigi Ambrosio on his election to the Steering Committee of the International College of Fellows of Biomaterials Science and Engineering (ICF-BSE). Luigi said, “This is a great chance to share the BIOACTION concept with international biomaterials experts and companies and increase its global visibility.”
